HISTORY OF OrSEA
"Oregon Society of Enrolled Agents"

OrSEA was originally incorporated as a non-profit domestic corporation on 05/20/87. That original group was unable to get the organization off the ground and the corporation involuntarily dissolved. OrSEA was accepted as an NAEA Affiliate in May of 1987. Along with a small, but very strong group of Oregon Enrolled Agents, a few of those original organizers were active in reinstating the corporation in July of 1990. Many of those original founding members are still members today. Past Presidents follow: Linda Kowalkowski, Susie Gregory, Charles Bissell, Peg (Walsh) Hadley, Doug Berwick, Marilee Thompson, Joe Alexander, Tony Bardi, Mary Lunceford, Peter Mar, & Michael Addington.

Enrolled Agents represent taxpayers when dealing with the Internal Revenue Service in a variety of ways; audits, appeals, collection, offers in compromise, installment agreements, and various other problem cases. Current legislation is being proposed, and public hearings are now being heard, regarding rules for Oregon Representatives. The State of Oregon has a licensing law for tax preparers with 30 hours of continuing education required each year. Those enrolled agents who also prepare tax returns are required to be both licensed as an EA, also known as a “Federally Authorized Tax Practitioner”; but also by the State of Oregon as a “Licensed Tax Preparer or Consultant”.

Historical information shows that in July 1990, we had 45 members. As of July 2007, OrSEA had grown to well over 200 members, all of who have national affiliation and are recognized for their expertise and professionalism in the tax field.
